College Library
![]() The history of the Shyam Lal College (Evening) Library is as old as that of the college and it has progressed tremendously along with the College since 1969.
It is well equipped and stocked library with separate reading room facilities. The books are classified according to the Dewey Decimal Classification with 19th edition as basic edition and along with subsequent editions and followed Classified Cataloging Code (3rd edition). The library services are computerized with barcode facilities to books as well as library members.
Library Membership
The Students enrolled in the College and Faculty members as well as Non-teaching Staff of the college are members of the college library. The total Members as on 2008-09
Reading Materials
In the matter of acquisition of Books and other reading materials College Policy is to acquire good books and other reading materials useful and relevant the subject concerned to build up a good collection to meet the teaching requirements. More than 39000 Books are available in all the subjects in 2009.
Periodical/ Magazines
Periodicals are an important source of research and advanced teaching. Presently we are subscribing to28 Journals/Magazines and 12 News Papers.
Reprographic Service
The Library has one Reprographic unit. Library provides this facility to all staff & students in the college at nominal cost of 0.50 Paisa per copy.
Library Services
Library Services in the form of issuing/returning of books, locating of the reading materials, initiation of fresher, assistance in the use of reference tools, the search of reading material on OPAC etc. Library is providing following services to its readers.
(i) Circulation Service
(ii) Book Bank Service.
(iii) Reference Service
(iv) OPAC
(v) Internet Access Service
(vi) Photocopy Service
(vii) In-service training for Jr. Library Professionals/ Students
(viii) Inter- Library Loan
The Library remains open on all working days.
Finance
Budgetary allocation to the library by the (i) College authority and (ii) UGC development grant, are main source of library finance. These grants vary from year to year. The total grant received during 2008-2009 was Rs. 2,70,000 (Two lakhs seventy thousands) from college budget and 1,50,000 (One lakh fifty thousand) from UGC.

Internet
Library provides Internet facilities to its readers during library hours. The library is also connected to the Delhi University’s central library network system. Library users may access the Delhi University’s central library system resources from the college itself.
Computerization of the library Services
Library services are computerized with the help of grant received from UGC. Presently Six computer systems are in operation to maintain computerized services to its readers.
A Lab. of 20 computers in library is under active process, which will provide Internet facilities to students & faculty very soon.
New Initiatives & Activities
(i) In the beginning of the academic session orientation programs are organized to Student.
(ii) From time to time library-related services are discussed with small group of faculty &
students.
(iii) Library science professionally qualified students training facilities are available on request.
(iv) Proposed of new library building has been approval and work is under process.
